Passport To Glamour

This is a 1960’s passport photo of my mom, the passport that brought her to America from Finland. This is my lovely mom on the precipice of a new life. She looks so excited and full of hope; dreaming of glamorous adventures in America.

She’s lived here for most of her life.

America has been exhilarating, exciting and full of beauty. But also full of sadness and what she calls, “The Swish of The Curtain,” which is her description of those unsettling moments that are both illuminating and frightening. When you learn more than you can process. They are moments that change you in ways that you don’t realize right away. But once you do, it’s hard to recapture the look she has on her face in this photo…
